Rajinikanth’s latest film, “Jailer,” directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has made a resounding impact at the box office, securing its position as the third-highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time. According to the latest trade figures, the film garnered a staggering collection of ₹450 crore worldwide during its debut week in cinemas after its release on August 10.
Among the elite club of Tamil films that have surpassed the ₹450-crore milestone globally, “Jailer” finds itself in esteemed company alongside Shankar’s sci-fi epic “2.0,” which achieved a lifetime collection of ₹723.30 crore, and Mani Ratnam’s historical drama “Ponniyin Selvan: Part I,” which amassed a lifetime collection of ₹498 crore.
The film’s remarkable journey at the box office commenced with an impressive opening day collection of ₹50.50 crore nett in India, followed by successive milestones: ₹28.50 crore nett on its first Friday, ₹38 crore nett on its inaugural Saturday, and ₹45.50 crore nett on its initial Sunday.
The momentum continued into the weekdays as “Jailer” maintained its strength, securing ₹30.50 crore nett on its first Monday and ₹41.50 crore nett on its first Tuesday. Adding an additional ₹19.50 crore nett on its first Wednesday, the total domestic collection for “Jailer” has now amassed ₹254 crore nett.
In a spectacular feat, the cumulative global earnings of “Jailer” have surged to an impressive ₹450.80 crore.
The film’s dominance is particularly evident in Tamil Nadu, where it has garnered a remarkable collection of approximately ₹117.50 crore within its first week. Beyond the southern region, “Jailer” has triumphed with earnings of ₹53 crore in Andhra Pradesh-Telangana, ₹39.50 crore in Karnataka, ₹36.25 crore in Kerala, and ₹7.75 crore in North India, as meticulously tracked by Box Office India.
